Register today. \nBlack Mental Health First Response (BMHFR) is a specialized training program designed to equip individuals with the necessary knowledge and skills to provide culturally sensitive initial support to members of the Black community facing mental health challenges or crises. BMHFR aims to bridge the gap between the mental health needs of Black individuals and the available resources by offering immediate assistance until appropriate professional help or culturally tailored resources can be accessed. \nWhat makes us Different? BMHFR distinguishes itself by integrating Africentric principles and understanding into its curriculum. This approach acknowledges and addresses the distinct cultural influences and perspectives within the Black community. Key components of the program include: \n \n\n• Approaching the Person: Participants will learn how to effectively communicate with individuals experiencing mental health challenges\, while being sensitive to their cultural context and potential resistance.\n• Assessing Crisis: Training will focus on distinguishing between crisis and non-crisis situations and following appropriate protocols to assess risk.\n• Reducing Stigma: BMHFR emphasizes strategies to reduce stigma surrounding mental health within the Black community and promote open discussions\, thus normalizing mental health matters.\n• Care and Well-being: The program highlights the importance of culturally sensitive self-care practices and maintaining mental well-being within the context of the Black community.\n\n \nTarget Audience: BMHFR offers courses suitable for various audiences including workplaces\, workshops\, retail settings\, institutions\, and other environments seeking to enhance their understanding of Black Mental Health. As barbers and Hairstylists\, your unique connection with clients positions you as frontline advocates for positive change. \nJoin us in becoming a beacon of support and understanding for those silently navigating their struggles. Black Mental Canada is introducing the “Self Care through Hair” initiative\, offering you the chance to become First Responders in identifying clients at risk of or experiencing a mental health crisis. \nAt BMHC\, our goal is to collaborate to provide training through our “First Response program.” This foundational training will equip you with best practices for identifying\, engaging in conversations\, actively listening\, and referring those who may be potentially at risk. \nALL AT NO COST. YES\, NO COST \nThis half day training presents a valuable opportunity for you to enhance your skills\, increase visibility\, and potentially become a paid partner in this impactful program.
