I am a Jamaican living in Vancouver. As a recent immigrant, I am aware of how the process and experience of forging a new life can bring both satisfaction and distress especially in intimate relationships. Life transitions can cause emotional stress and often, we need help to tap into our own inherent strengths. I work from an anti-oppression lens and am a firm believer in intersectionality as part of the human condition. Sexuality and sexual behaviours can also be challenging for some but, I am passionate about working with individuals and couples of all genders, orientations, races and ethnicities. I also specialize in addictions which I view as a maladaptive coping skill for traumatic situations.

Emotional wellness is a key aspect of soul care, and as we live in a fast-paced world, we are often moving from one thing to the next. Seldom do we take the time to sit, reflect, and think about how we are feeling or how we are moving through life from day to day.

Nalwanga’s approach to the therapeutic relationship is rooted in ethnocultural understanding and empathy. Keenly aware of an emerging pattern of sentiment in her own practice, Nalwanga founded Karibu Mental Health Network in an effort to meet the increasing need for readily available, accessible and relatable therapists who are dedicated to serving diasporic communities. As a therapist, Nalwanga grounds herself firmly in the philosophical framework of Ubuntu and remains steadfast in her commitment to facilitate authenticity whilst remaining dedicated to helping people make sense of the challenges they face.

You didn’t come here by accident! You came here because a part of you is ready to start unpacking the many things you’ve tucked away over time. The best part is you don’t have to do it alone, as exploring life’s hurdles, works better in collaboration.

I work from an integrative (e.g., psycho-dynamic, emotion-focused, cognitive-behavioural) perspective that is trauma-informed. I always cater therapy to whomever I am working with in order ensure that we are working towards the goals you would like to achieve. The therapeutic relationship is important to me. I strive to create an environment that is warm, open, and non-judgmental. I am open and accepting to any and all of your identities, whether that be religion, race, sexuality, beliefs or even if you have a lifestyle that is different.
