Oseltamivir, commonly known as Antiflu , is an antiviral medication used to prevent and treat the flu. It works by interfering with the proteins the flu virus uses to reproduce, giving the immune system time to destroy the virus. Antiflu is most effective when taken within 48 hours of the onset of flu symptoms, reducing the duration of the illness by up to one day and the severity of symptoms by up to 38% compared to placebo. It is particularly useful for individuals at higher risk of complications, such as those with immune issues or lung problems, as well as for those who have not received a flu shot.
Antiflu 75mg Medicine is only available on prescription and should be taken twice daily for five days. It can be taken with or without meals, however taking it with food may lower your chance of stomach distress. The medicine is effective in both treating and preventing the flu, with studies indicating that it can greatly lower the risk of sickness in infected persons’ household contacts when administered within 48 hours of symptom start. While Antiflu can not replace the flu vaccination, it can be an important component of a complete flu preventive approach, particularly for people at higher risk of complications.
