I am Adeola Adenugba, a Canadian-trained Psychotherapist and a Canadian Certified Counsellor. I hold a Masters Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, and another in Gender Studies. I am a professional member of the CAMFT, PACCP, and CCPA. In my practice, I use the following approaches in my work with clients; Attachment-based Approach, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy, Family Systems Approaches, Narrative Therapy, Person-Centered Approaches, Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Strength-Based Approaches and Trauma Focused Approaches.Being familiar with some of life’s struggles myself, I value the opportunity to support my clients and walk alongside them as they journey through life’s complexities. In my role as a therapist/counselor, I work with my clients on their personal, emotional, and mental health, to foster their general sense of well-being and peace of mind. I also work to promote the health of their interpersonal relationships and enhance peaceable, respectful, and loving relationships within the family structure. So, if you are facing challenges in your personal, family, marital, work, school, or social life, know that as human beings, we are not meant to “do” life alone. You don’t have to figure this out all by yourself. I’m here and I would love to talk to you, walk with you, and support you through your life’s journey and experiences.

Years ago whilst dealing with some health issues that affected me both mentally and physically a mentor/counsellor told me to “change my thoughts, in order to change my world. Because my present circumstances at the time did not determine were I go, but where I started.” Hence, I do understand how mental and physical struggles can impact one’s life and that admitting to those struggles and asking for help is never easy. Hence, as a therapist with lived-experiences, I am here to walk alongside you on the journey to healing and restoration. I have a good understanding of addiction, underlying causes and treatment practices. Knowledgeable of mental health illness, symptoms and treatments. Lived experience with health issues that can may and can affect one’s mental health. I offer Couples and Individual therapy. I work from a mindfulness and trauma informed perspective.

I know that we are all vastly complicated social, intellectual, spiritual, emotional, physical beings. As a therapist, I am trained to be someone who helps others when challenges, questions, and difficulties in life need to be understood and resolved. I am a cis-gendered, heterosexual male with mixed ethnicity (Black and White) as well as a mixed cultural identity (raised in China). My strengths include my empathetic listening, compassionate speaking, strong intuitive understanding, and acuity at picking up non-verbal clues and connecting dots. I like to listen and learn about my clients and let their stories, needs, and goals guide the approach I use. I like working with people of all kinds and ages but have spent specific attention on the youth population as well as couples and other kinds of interpersonal relationships. Therapy modalities that I tend to use are Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy, Solutions-Focused Brief and Family Therapy.

I understand that vulnerability in therapy can be new and intimidating work for some of us. I strive to provide a safe, non-judgmental and comforting environment for those from various backgrounds. My primary focus is centred on supporting students struggling with transitional periods, anxiety/depression and individuals who may struggle with intergenerational trauma, depression, anxiety, self-esteem, and emotional regulation. In my experience, I have learned that it takes courage to seek therapy and self-compassion to show up for ourselves continuously. Cultural competence is important in my practice and I understand the cultural nuances that influence radicalized people in our community. I understand first-hand how depression and anxiety can seep into every part of our life and create layers of anger, shame and guilt. Both my background and life experiences help me effectively work alongside BIPOC and POC in our community. I am deeply committed to supporting clients through a strength-based approach with the client’s goals in mind.
