I acknowledge that I am an uninvited visitor gratefully living, working, and playing on the traditional and unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səl̓ílwətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. Who I Am As a 2SIQ (2Spirit, Indigiqueer) tastawiyiniwak, transgender, queer, neuroexpansive (audhd, c-ptsd+), and disabled counsellor with mixed swampy cree (from fisher river cree nation), japanese, and Black/african diaspora & scottish (through jamaica) heritage, I bring a rich and intersectional perspective to my practice. My life experiences shape my work and enable me to connect with individuals across a broad range of backgrounds across the lifespan. My work is rooted in culturally informed and holistic practices, creating a warm, safe(r), and inclusive space for healing and growth. My Approach My approach is deeply rooted in spiritual wisdom and reciprocal relationships. My spiritual wisdom arises from my connection to spirit and ancestors, the land, and my inner knowing. I am guided by land-based, liberation-focused, and justice-oriented practices and wholeheartedly embody an indigenized and decolonized worldview. I believe that everyone carries unique gifts and the wisdom to move toward healing, growth, and change. I am not here to show up as an “expert”; I am here to walk alongside you as a partner, collaborator, or even co-conspirator, as you define your own experience. I honour each person’s unique rhythm and hold space for a therapeutic relationship guided by spirit and shared intention. Through the relationships I have built in my personal, nursing, and counselling experiences, I have had the privilege of bearing witness to such a wide range of open, raw, and vulnerable expressions. From survival tools to warmth and protective strategies, I believe that they are all valid and deserve space, compassion, and understanding. In gratitude and reciprocity for the extensions of trust and vulnerability; I bring my gifts, knowledge, and lived-experience to each encounter with deep respect and reverence for our shared connection. Customized Therapeutic Offerings: I offer virtual and outdoor therapy sessions tailored to each person with the following practices: •Nature-Based Therapy: Connecting with the land with movement and stillness to foster well-being and harmony with mother earth. •Body-Mind Healing: Facilitating a process of reconnecting with your body’s wisdom to promote emotional well-being. •Narratives & Storytelling: Rediscovering personal truths through storytelling, leading to healing and growth. •Inner Child Healing & Working with Different Parts of Yourself: Nurturing inner child parts and understanding how aspects of self influence your present. •Embracing Neurodiversity: Encouraging self-acceptance and self-advocacy by exploring your unique rhythms, sensory needs, and strengths. •Earth-Based and Ancestral-Spiritual Integration: Personalize your therapeutic experience with sacred and spiritual elements, including earth-based practices, channelling, and lineage healing. •Creative Expression: Weaving in creative expression, such as art, music, and movement to explore and move with emotion. Additional Areas of Focus: •Intersectional Care: I hold space for the social, cultural, and systemic factors that impact healing, particularly for underrepresented communities. I look at the whole person, knowing our identities and experiences are interconnected. •Hormone Readiness Assessments: I provide guidance and support for the completion of hormone-readiness assessments. I assist those I work with in navigating this journey while advocating for their rights and autonomy. •Abolition: I advocate for dismantling carceral and oppressive systems and dream of community-centred,transformative ways of caring for each other. I aim to create a space rooted in respect, collaboration, and empowerment that is guided by compassion and a commitment to equity. Life Beyond Therapy Outside of therapy, I enjoy spending time in the woods, in bodies of water, on mountains, in ceremony, and in the company of my cats, Russia and Sochi. I have ever-evolving hyperfixations; right now, I have been enjoying sewing, beading, reading, and hide-tanning. If you resonate with my approach please email me at janae@astamahstek.ca or book a consult at https://aws-portal.owlpractice.ca/janaedunlop/booking. ekosani (thank you) and kinanâskomitin (I am grateful to you).

Mental health is complex and a one size fits all model to support clients is not feasible. I am a Registered Psychotherapist (RP) and educator committed to applying an anti-oppressive practice (AOP) and trauma-informed care while working with individuals, families and couples. I strive to create brave spaces where all aspects of an individual can be explored and understood without judgement. With this curiosity, I seek to explore new narratives with clients rooted in hope, resilience and strength. I utilize a strength-based, culturally responsive and decolonizing approach and have extensive clinical work supporting newcomers, survivors of gender-based violence, and diverse populations in community settings.

I offer a warm, compassionate, and client-centred approach to therapy, specializing in individual, couples, family, child, and youth therapy. I know that life can bring challenges that leave you feeling overwhelmed or stuck. The good news is that you don’t have to go through it on your own. I offer a supportive, non-judgmental space where you can share your story, feel truly heard, and begin the process of healing. My goal is to walk alongside you on your journey, helping you move toward the peace, growth, greater self-awareness and wholeness. I have experience supporting clients through a wide range of challenges; Trauma, depression, marital issues, family conflicts, suicidal ideation, attachment issues, relationship issues, work-related stress, faith and spirituality. I also offer a Christian centered approach to counselling upon client request. I am a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO), a member of the Canadian Association of Spiritual Care (CASC) and the Canadian Association for Couple and Family Therapy (CACFT). Always remember that “anything that’s human is mentionable, and anything that is mentionable can be more manageable. When we can talk about our feelings, they become less overwhelming, less upsetting, and less scary”. (Fred Rogers)

Akashia brings warmth, lived experience, and a collaborative spirit to her work as a Student Therapist (Qualifying) at Bliss Counselling. She is passionate about supporting clients in exploring identity, healing relational patterns, and finding freedom from beliefs that no longer serve them. Her goal is to create a safe and affirming space where clients feel seen, heard, and empowered in their journey of self-discovery. Akashia works under the supervision of Tammy Benwell, MSW, RSW, a senior therapist and clinical supervisor at Bliss Counselling. With Tammy’s guidance, Akashia provides high-quality, supervised care while cultivating her own clinical voice. Clients benefit from both Akashia’s lived experience and Tammy’s extensive expertise. I have been practicing therapy for about 15 years with a Masters Degree in Social Work. I have worked extensively with youth who have had conflict with the law, along with the challenges that their families face navigating the system and the complexity that it comes with. I have also coached individuals with ADHD, assisting them with tools to help them navigate where they feel challenged. I work with adolescents, young adults, and adults who have experienced challenging life circumstances. I work with individuals who have experienced trauma, individuals who have family members who experience mental illness, anxiety, depression, interpersonal conflict, grief, stress, abuse and domestic violence. I use a variety of approaches, catering each therapy session to the individual focusing on what their strengths and needs are. I love to equip clients with skills and tools to help them manage the challenges that life brings them with approaches such as DBT, CBT and EMDR. I love to use humor (of course when appropriate) and creativity, and enjoy laughing with my clients, as laughter can often be one of our best resources. I am dedicated to creating a safe space for clients where they feel like they can be themselves and discover more of who they are and who they want to be. I believe that as a woman of color I have moved through the world in a unique way and it has given me a remarkable perspective on life and the challenges that being someone of color experiences. My perspective gives me a passion to assist my clients find their voice, choice and their power. I am also a Christian and believe all are loved and important and I welcome working with all people. Upon request, I will incorporate Christian components into sessions such as prayer and bible reading. I will also give individuals a safe space to share their faith and the struggles that sometimes happen in the Christian walk. In my spare time, I enjoy traveling and exploring new cities and cultures. I love meeting new people, reading a good book and of course ice cream.
