I grew up in a rural agricultural community in Kerala, Southern India, where a culture rooted in caring and sharing shaped my values and inspired my path toward a helping profession. I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce from the University of Calicut, then pursued a Master’s in Social Work from Kerala University, specializing in Medical and Psychiatric Social Work. Adapting to city life was initially challenging, but it also helped me grow personally and professionally. I began my career as a Family Counsellor, supporting individuals, couples, and families with conflict resolution, communication, and daily life challenges. Motivated by a long-held dream, I founded a non-profit organization serving marginalized communities including fishermen, women, sex workers, and LGBTQ+ individuals. As Director, I led initiatives in behavior change communication, legal and medical aid, counselling, community development, and training for 13 years. During this time, I also earned a Law degree (LLB) from Calicut University. Later, I joined FXB International, overseeing programs across four Indian states, focusing on vulnerable children, women, and families. In 2012, I immigrated to Canada and started over. I completed a certificate in Canadian Social Work Practice from Ryerson University and had my MSW recognized as equivalent in Canada, leading to my registration as a Social Worker. In Canada, I worked with CMHA Toronto in the Mental Health Court Support Program, later becoming a Concurrent Disorders Specialist. I provided therapy to individuals navigating mental health and addiction, developing expertise in harm reduction, relapse prevention, and life skills. I pursued certifications in CBT, DBT, MI, SFBT, and EFFT, and currently provide structured psychotherapy and facilitate therapy groups for anxiety, depression, psychosis, addiction, and emotion regulation. I remain passionate about supporting people in achieving meaningful, empowered change.

Reflecting on my journey to becoming a therapist, I recall pivotal moments in my life that led me to pursue education in counselling psychology. I spent my teenage years volunteering with children in my community through local programs and youth groups. Here I began to learn and experience the uniqueness that each individual holds. In my youth, I also had access to various therapeutic supports in my area, ranging from government-funded services through OHIP to group therapeutic experiences offered by local specialists and hospitals. This aided my exploration into varying therapeutic supports and further highlighted my realization that mental health supports are not a one-size-fits-all solution, and the importance of building therapeutic supports to be person-centered and created in collaboration with the person involved. This continued as I pursued my undergraduate degree, allowing me to work with diverse demographics and communities through local YMCA programs that provided support to children and youth from all socio economic backgrounds. During this time, I learned more about the various challenges and experiences people face, and realized that hardship and difficult times can affect individuals of all ages, abilities, and situations. This continued my exploration and learning about individuals experiences, fueling my desire to continue helping and making a positive impact on others. During my undergraduate degree, I was able to pursue education in both psychology and Indigenous studies. This is where I began to learn more about trauma and its impacts while also incorporating holistic perspectives and teachings. As I gained the opportunity to work with a variety of individuals from all walks of life, I realized the importance of highlighting the unique strengths individuals possess, as well as the importance of empowerment and support in aiding a persons mental health or healing journey. This sparked my commitment to continued learning about trauma and mental health advocacy. Fast forward to my Master’s education in Counselling Psychology, where I learned about various theories, tools, and skills that can be applied to therapeutic work with individuals. Ultimately, what led me to pursue this educational journey was realizing that as individuals, we all hold experiences and situations that challenge us. At the same time, I also believe that each of us has the strengths and skills to heal and overcome challenges. My role is to help identify the strengths you already possess and empower individuals to create healing and positive change. This can be achieved by creating a space that is calm and safe, where your voice can be heard and compassion and empathy are at the forefront of the work.

My passion for offering psychotherapy services is deeply rooted in my personal experiences. I wanted to fill a gap and provide representation to BIPOC individuals and couples who wanted to seek therapy, but wanted someone who had a similar background as them. I am a first generation Canadian, with parents who migrated from the Caribbean and Africa. I’ve used my life experiences to help shape my identity as a counsellor and help ground me in the work I provide. My therapeutic style is grounded in collaboration, curiosity, empathy, openness, and acceptance, as I believe these are the crucial building blocks for creating safety and transformative lasting change. In therapy, my hope is to facilitate a process where clients can understand and make meaning of their experiences and feelings in a way that feels genuine and authentic. I also hope to carefully curate an environment where you can freely explore culturally sensitive matters. I value the connections I make with each of my clients and understand the complex interplay of biological, psychological, and sociological forces that influence us and shape our experiences together. My approach and experience is based predominantly on Emotion Focused Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, but I use various lenses and modalities to customize your therapeutic experiences because I appreciate that no two people are the same and can adjust accordingly to what suits your needs best.

NOTE: Not currently accepting new clients. I work with Black and racialized clients who are discontent, distressed, or stuck as a result of molding themselves to fit expectations others have of them and struggle with being themselves in their relationships and other contexts they are a part of. I help you become more secure in who you are: your authentic selves and self-expression so that you can cultivate relationships with yourself and others that honour these things. As a Black woman and trained Couple and Family Therapist, I approach therapy relationally and systemically. This means that I pay attention to how your contexts (e.g. society, culture, relationships, etc.)-past and present- influence your experience in various aspects of your life, including your mental wellbeing and relationships. I work with you to support you in moving from where you are now to where you want be; we examine what might be getting in the way of you reaching that place and how you can navigate these challenges in ways that honour your intersecting identities and values. My approach is grounded in the values I hold around intersectionality and social justice, anti-oppressive and trauma informed practice, humour, and the therapeutic relationship. I invite you to schedule a free 15 minute consultation call to see if we would be a good fit.

Whatever you’re struggling with, you don’t have to deal with it alone. It’s possible to heal from trauma, find internal peace, and learn new skills that help you transform into the person you want to be and step into the life you want to have. It takes courage to seek support and work through your problems, but with time and commitment, therapy is one of the most rewarding things you can do for yourself. I compassionately treat you as a whole person rather than just a diagnosis; warmly acknowledging and affirming important aspects of your identity such as race, gender, and sexual orientation. I believe in having an honest, collaborative partnership where we work together to resolve your concerns, processing trauma and regulating difficult emotions. I believe that providing a safe and nonjudgmental space is essential to the therapeutic relationship, so rest assured that you can entrust me with your most painful stories. I’m here to support you in recognizing and building upon your strengths as we collaboratively develop strategies to improve your life in meaningful ways.
