Trauma is defined as an emotional response to a terrible event, however this definition does not encompass all of the undertakings you may be experiencing. Trauma can occur from family generations, a close friend’s experience, or seeing something on the media that affects us deeply. Your trauma will not look the same as another person’s and that’s okay. If you are looking to process and heal from the heavy weight of trauma, through a collaborative effort, I can help you unpack your story to be able to move forward. I am a therapist and yoga instructor who helps individuals from a holistic perspective with a combined experience of 8 years using various intervention models that best suit the individual I am working with. Having worked with many neurodiverse individuals I recognize that this is not a one size fits all model and my current focus incorporates an emphasis on mindfulness and being gentle with ourselves to promote healing through. I use an integrative approach that combines talk therapy and actionable steps from a variety of approaches such as Existentialism, Behavioural, Mindfulness, DBT and Internal Family Systems therapy to understand who you are and the best process to help you heal on your journey. The two tenets that guide my work are the ideas that everyone deserves care and respect and that my role is to help you, the expert on your own life, solve the problems and overcome the obstacles that are holding you back from achieving the best version of yourself. I am available for online and phone sessions. Email me today to receive your free consultation where we can determine if I am the best fit for you and what you need to connect to your best self.

Adijat Bunmi Adekunle (she/her) is a Mental Health Therapist and the Clinical Director of Heartfire Medicine. Adi co-founded Heartfire after a decade of determined, uncompromising effort to provide clinical mental health counselling for underserved groups and individuals like BIPOC, 2SLGBTQIIA+, and Muslim communities in Saskatchewan. The path to directing a private practice was paved for Adi in countless experiences of prejudice, microaggressions, performative allyship, and “culturally competent” or “culturally informed” professionals, rather than ones who were culturally humble or appreciative. She doesn’t only understand the imperatives for mental health professionals working with BIPOC clients — she’s also intimately familiar with the struggles as a client, and seeker of support as a Black Woman herself. She has spent her career holding space for non-judgemental acceptance, compassionate patience, and an intersectional approach to the traumas of oppression, especially in our BIPOC, Queer, and Trans communities. Sitting down with Adijat, or participating in a Heartfire Learning experience, means a safe place to collaborate, determine goals, and empower not just yourself, but your community and beyond. Her areas of focus include racial and cultural safety, gender and sexual diversity, intergenerational trauma and anxiety, especially in teens and children. Adijat holds a Master’s in Social Work from Dalhousie University, a Bachelor’s in Social Work from the University of Regina, and a Bachelor’s in Psychology from the University of Saskatchewan.

I’m a Registered Social Worker in Ontario. I’m most passionate about empowering folks who were marginalized. I have over 15 years of experience in the mental health field. My career has been devoted to helping individuals, couples, families, and groups with their mental health needs. I provide counselling services to those who are struggling with life’s challenges. I specialize in cognitive-behavioural therapy and mindfulness-based stress reduction approaches to promote emotional well-being. I strive to provide a safe space for clients to explore their innermost thoughts and feelings so they can gain insight into their behaviour patterns and make positive changes in their lives. Life is an ever-ongoing process of development, including understanding who we are. But we often feel a sense of shame when we experience life shifts, particularly in our communities where change is often perceived as a threat. I want to help folks see that change is a sign of growth and progress. My goal is to help my clients find balance, peace, and joy through self-compassion and understanding.

We might be a good therapeutic fit if you are at the onset of considering a life event in a new light; if you’re trying to navigate systems of oppression with grace for yourself; if you’re looking for support in finding a sweet spot between codependence and individualism in your relationships; or if you’re just looking to be kept company in the hard parts of being a person. I am an abolitionist and I use systemic, person-centred/humanistic, somatic, solutions-focused, queer, and feminist therapies. I completed a 400-hour practicum at the Sexual Assault Centre of Edmonton as part of my graduate program at Athabasca University and am also an advanced level student of Somatic Experiencing. You can expect me to ask you “how” questions and be willing to crack the odd joke with you about your tried, tested, and true coping strategies. It takes a great deal of chutzpah to begin a therapeutic journey and I wish you all the best in yours whether it involves me or not!

I am Tracy a registered psychotherapist (qualifying) with the College of Registered Psychotherapist of Ontario. I have a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University and Certificate in Concurrent Disorders from University of Toronto/CMHA. Growing up in Jamaica I realized that helping people was of great interest to me. It just felt good helping someone who was hurt, was having a bad day emotionally or simply wanted to talk. This genuine interest in the wellbeing of others, had me dreaming of a profession in which I could provide support to other people. I have over five years experience working with individuals to realize their goals. I am delighted to be helping individuals to navigate through difficult times and celebrate breakthroughs with them. Using a strength-based approach to therapy, I journey with my clients as they discover and rediscover more about themselves and make sense of how their experiences have impacted who they are. Using clients’ support system, I use an integrative approach utilizing Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Narrative Therapy and Solutions Focused Therapy. Everyone has a story I am happy to listen to yours and even help you to re-write it.
