Hope is powerful and is often what helps us push forward when life’s challenges become confusing and overwhelming. Yet, hope can be difficult to find and hold on to. I cannot promise solutions, but I am committed to walking with individuals, couples, and families in their search for understanding, growth, healing, and hope. I take a holistic and collaborative approach in exploring deeper emotions and thought patterns in past and present experiences. I offer a calm, non-judgmental, and trauma-sensitive space for you to share your story while gently supporting you to reach your desired outcomes. It is my hope that through journeying together, you would begin to see movement towards your goals, however big or small, and ultimately, that you would be empowered and encouraged to face what lies ahead. If you would like to learn more about how therapy works and how I can support you, please feel free to connect with me. You can book a 15-minute consultation to get us started. Even if you and I are not the right fit, I would be happy to help you find the right therapist for you.

Adijat Bunmi Adekunle (she/her) is a Mental Health Therapist and the Clinical Director of Heartfire Medicine. Adi co-founded Heartfire after a decade of determined, uncompromising effort to provide clinical mental health counselling for underserved groups and individuals like BIPOC, 2SLGBTQIIA+, and Muslim communities in Saskatchewan. The path to directing a private practice was paved for Adi in countless experiences of prejudice, microaggressions, performative allyship, and “culturally competent” or “culturally informed” professionals, rather than ones who were culturally humble or appreciative. She doesn’t only understand the imperatives for mental health professionals working with BIPOC clients — she’s also intimately familiar with the struggles as a client, and seeker of support as a Black Woman herself. She has spent her career holding space for non-judgemental acceptance, compassionate patience, and an intersectional approach to the traumas of oppression, especially in our BIPOC, Queer, and Trans communities. Sitting down with Adijat, or participating in a Heartfire Learning experience, means a safe place to collaborate, determine goals, and empower not just yourself, but your community and beyond. Her areas of focus include racial and cultural safety, gender and sexual diversity, intergenerational trauma and anxiety, especially in teens and children. Adijat holds a Master’s in Social Work from Dalhousie University, a Bachelor’s in Social Work from the University of Regina, and a Bachelor’s in Psychology from the University of Saskatchewan.

When our lives feel most stuck, hopeless, or disconnected, I believe that there is an opportunity for deep self-knowledge and actualization. It’s my goal to empower others to explore their inner worlds and work towards cultivating meaning. As a relational therapist, I understand how important relationships are to our personal well-being and mental health, and I believe that the therapeutic relationship between my clients and myself is extremely important. I view each of my clients as unique individuals, and I place a strong emphasis on understanding their own personal stories, and how they’ve been shaped by these stories. I recognize that the behaviours, thoughts, and feelings that come along can be a lot to care for and organize, and I am happy to support you throughout this process! I offer a relaxed and nonjudgmental space where we can build a comfortable relationship, allowing us to work collaboratively to explore and build upon the strengths and qualities you already possess. I fervently believe in tailoring my therapeutic style to each client, providing interventions that address individual emotional, intellectual, physical, and spiritual needs. Friendly and compassionate, I also value humour as an important aspect of the healing process. My approach gives our work together the flexibility to meet your individual needs and goals. I am offering Telehealth services at this time. Please feel free to book a complimentary phone consultation to discuss the type of support you are looking for. If you feel that I would not be a good fit for you, I would be happy to refer you to another therapist. I look forward to connecting with you!
